Federal Lawsuit to Assure Constitutional Rights of Students and Parents in Public Schools
APRIL 2011 - Alvarez Garcia recently filed a federal lawsuit to assure the constitutional rights of parents and students when subjected to involuntary counseling in Hillsborough County public schools. The suit arose from a school-social worker's counseling of a thirteen-year old student who, for the first time, disclosed her suicidal intentions. The social worker released the student after the critical disclosure and without notifying the parents of their daughter's interests and need for care.
